This is documentation for the WordPress theme “Just a Blog” which is available to download from Emz Design. If you have downloaded Just a Blog, here are some simple steps to install the theme to your blog.

1. Unzip the file and upload the folder “justablog” into /wp-content/themes on your server. Activate via Appearance > Themes in the WordPress control panel.

2. Open the plugins folder and upload the file “limit-posts.php” to /wp-content/plugins on your server, and activate via the WordPress control panel.

Featured Posts
This theme uses a custom query that pulls out Featured Posts from a category called “Featured”. For this to work for you simply create a category called “Featured” and when you post a featured post, add it to the “Featured” category and it will automatically display that post.

To show the image on the front page it makes use of a custom field named “Featured_Img”. If you’d like to show the image on the front page, upload an image as you usually would when creating a post, but instead of inserting it into the post, copy and paste the URL it creates into the custom field “Featured_Img”.

Any other image you want in the post you can just add as normal.

Latest News
This theme uses a custom query that pulls out Latest News articles from a category called “Latest News”. For this to work for you simply create a category called “Latest News” and when you post a latest news article, add it to the “Latest News” category and it will automatically display. This theme pulls out the latest 4 posts from the Latest News category.

Main Articles
Articles that don’t appear in the “Featured” or “Latest News” articles appear underneath and are also pulled out using a custom query. However, for this to work for you, you will have to edit part of this query. Open the file “edit-query.php” and you will see just one line of php like so:

<?php query_posts('cat=-3,-9&showposts=6'); ?>

-3 and -9 are ID’s for the “Featured” and “Latest News” categories and this query basically works by telling wordpress not to pull out any posts under these two categories. You need to edit the 3 and 9 to the IDs that wordpress has created for the “Featured” and “Latest News” categories on your installation.

To find out the ID’s of specific categories, simply go to Posts > Categories in your wordpress control panel, and click on edit for the “Featured” and “Latest News” categories, and at the end of the URL it will show the ID of the category. Like so:

tag_ID=3

So, simply find the ID’s of the “Latest News” and “Featured” categories and edit them in edit-query.php. So if your ID’s are 10 and 34, your edited code will look like this:

<?php query_posts('cat=-10,-34&showposts=6'); ?>

It’s important to keep the minus before the numbers otherwise it will only show posts from those categories.

Widget Ready
The theme is Widget Ready so you can add widgets using the wordpress control panel, swap them, change them etc.

Mobile Broadband is one of the most extensively used sources for accessing the web, especially after the implementation of the 3G standards in the mobile networks. They have improved the broadband penetration and provide more mobility in the country. They are capable of transferring data at a speed of 14.4Mbps, but the speed offered at present in UK is 7.2Mbps.

Even though, mobile broadband has many advantages over other broadband services, it might not be the best choice if it does not satisfy your requirements. Let’s first identify who needs mobile broadband:

1. It would be the best option for travelers who would like to access the internet using their laptop from anywhere across the world.

2. Mobile Broadband provides more privacy than other forms of internet. It’s more or less like a mobile phone which is used only by a single person.

3. If you do not want to fight with the hassle of wires or sit for hours together in configuring a broadband connection, then mobile broadband would be the best choice.

4. PAYG mobile broadband would be best rather than searching for Wi-Fi hotspots.

5. If you are a user residing in an area where a fiber optic cable network is unavailable, then mobile broadband could be used. The mobile network covers almost 95% of the country, so broadband access might be possible at least using a 2G service which can serve good at speeds better than a dial up.

6. Users who would like to use multiple wireless gadgets like I-phones, I-pod, I-pad, Smart Phones, Mobile Phones, Laptops, Net books, etc, for downloading stuff via internet can choose the mobile broadband Wi-Fi modem. It’s called Mi-Fi and is expected to boom the market especially after the implementation of the 4G networks.

A few observations before you select a mobile broadband would provide you a good web experience. It’s always a better idea to listen to experience and reviews from users of the particular areas. Otherwise check the availability of every mobile broadband provider in your area and speeds offered by the network. Mobile broadband providers like 3 mobile, T mobile, Vodafone and Virgin offer speeds up to 7.2Mbps while others offer only 3.6Mbps. Also find if the available network in your area offers 3G broadband services, because many areas are offered with integrated 2G services which are slower than the 3G internet. Finally if you aren’t a frequent user, PAYG would be the best option to save your money.

Wireless broadband is a special package which allows customers to go wireless within or around their premises. This type of connection provides more reliability, faster access, and more mobility. Customers can share their broadband connection using multiple computers, game consoles and mobile phones to form their own wireless network.

Setting up a wireless network is possible by installing a router between the modem and the computer. But it’s better to subscribe for a wireless broadband package if unsure of how it works and to avoid confusion later. A wireless router helps to split a broadband connection to multiple and provides access both by wire and wireless. A computer needs an inbuilt or an external wireless card to access the wireless router. So before subscribing for a wireless broadband service, customers have to check to see if their computer or notebook has a wireless card installed in it.

Wireless Internet has a range of access, which is vulnerable to many obstacles like thick walls, trees, and dead spots. To avoid these issues customers have to make sure that the wireless router is placed in a tall and centralized location of the house. Customers can also use large aerials and wireless access point to boos the range of access. To avoid trouble customers can connect their computers using the Ethernet cable and use only the notebooks for wireless access. If its just one computer, they have to make sure of having an Ethernet cable as a stand by.

There might be a question of security in using a wireless network. But it’s actually safe to use a wireless network if all the security procedures are followed. Wireless connections follow 2 types of security features which are WEP and WAP. The difference between both the systems is the type and level of encryption and of the both WAP is more secured and latest. Also wireless routers will have an inbuilt firewall that can protect access of your network by hackers. In spite of all this customers can also configure their routers to provide or block access to specific computers using the MAC address of the respective computers.

Customers unaware of how to use a wireless connection can try using the millions of hot spots available across the country using their notebooks. But do not compare the speed of the hot spot to an actual wireless broadband connection, because it can vary between the service providers. There are a number of broadband providers who offer a bundle package for wireless connection that can save a lot of money.
